“Quicksand” is the debut album from Claire Helm
The album opens with “Ghost,” the latest single. It’s a great driving pop song with excellent melodies and a great guitar break. This is a great initial track in an album full of well-considered, well-edited rock songs. The album also showcases Claire Helm’s excellent vocals.
“Nothing Changes” moves steadily with a driving bassline and is a good example of a really well-edited pop song in the classic sense. The instrumental break keeps the track’s momentum, and Claire’s vocals stand out against the well-considered instrumentation, especially with the drop-down at the end of the track.
“Kings and Queens” is a change of pace, maintaining a pop/rock vibe with strong vocals throughout. “She stands” begins with a very cool guitar break and the vocals and guitar work well together. ‘Always getting better” is another change of pace and would I suspect be a great live track with a rousing chorus.
“Quicksand” has a great opening with a wall of vocals against a great mix of more rootsy instrumentation, with some great percussion. “Bobby” is a driving rock track that moves along at some pace with excellent playing and a great guitar tone supporting the vocals.
“Mad Man Moon” switches pace with a keyboard introduction, with great vocals sitting nicely in the track. “The jokes on me” and “Go home” maintain some great sonic grooves that lead to the final track, “The Road,” which is a stand-out track stripped back to vocals and piano. It is a heartfelt conclusion to a very well-crafted, well-mixed, and mastered album.
