The annual GER showcase at The Old Woollen in Leeds showcased Martin Simpson and Liz Hanks with support from Nick Cody & The Heartache. These events are designed to bring the very best music to a listening audience and require much planning. Post covid and in these tougher economic times, its harder to generate interest in live events.
This was one of those “I was there events” an evening of pure magic.
GER has hosted Martin Simpson in the past, but the addition of Liz Hanks added a whole new dimension. The combination of instruments over 90 minutes was exceptional, and the audience loved every minute. Liz is an outstanding musician with a history of playing with many A-list artists across the globe.
The encore of “More than Enough” was the perfect closing track, so apt for these times.
Support was from Nick Cody & The Heartache, a new acoustic quartet who worked up a set of original material and material from the recent “Covering These Tracks” project. This was the first live outing for this ensemble and was well received by the audience.
